Over the weekend I was reading an article from Y.L. Catino. It was a well thought out piece on the “alleged labor shortage“. There was a sentence in the article that caught my attention. It is as follows: “Until employers take hold of their talent management programs, which of course includes recruiting, they will never be able to have a successful recruitment pipeline.” She went on to say that “traditional HR policies and programs just will not work in today’s world.”
In another article, by Luke Johnson titled “The truth about the HR department“, Mr. Johnson says: “Companies should start getting fit right now. As Albert Einstein said: “Bureaucracy is the death of any achievement.” When it is a question of survival, there is no room for the non-essential.”
This articles caused my head to spin, thinking; how are we to “take hold of our talent management programs”? How do companies get “fit”? I mean, is there some kind of treadmill for companies? Or maybe instead, we might be able to find a “Dexatrim” for companies.
I don’t know what the answer is, but I believe that we are do for a paradigm adjustment. Maybe, that is just what Ms. Catino and Mr. Johnson are trying to say; If we take off our pink colored glassess and open our eyes to the reality of the labor market then we might see the disparities in our hiring practices.
