I was looking for more effective ways to source on the blogosphere as in my opinion blogs are a new rich sourcing ground. I had been tinkering with different queries and tools. I tried icerocket, blogdigger, technorati, digg and you might be surprise to hear which one I consider the best.
Most of the blog search tools are actually somewhat difficult to search with and to filter the blogs you don’t want. You have possibly visited a few of these yourself and know just what I am talking about. Some of those things can be solved by designing a robust query but it is still hit and miss.
But, as I mentioned earlier, I was looking for something better. I believe I just struck Gold, Google’s Blog Search has released some new tools and they have been very quiet about announcing them. Their blog Search enables you to find either specific posts or entire blogs it also indexes blogs by their site feeds, which they say will be checked frequently for new content. Also, because of the structured data within site feeds, it is possible to find precise posts and date ranges with much greater accuracy.
All of the standard Google Search operators are supported in Blog Search. Including: link:, site:, intitle: but what set them apart in my mind was that they added a few new ones operators, like:
inblogtitle:
inposttitle:
inpostauthor:
blogurl:
Go to the about google blog search page http://www.google.com/help/about_blogsearch.html for more details, and while you are there try this query:
blogurl:developer java xml oracle
Don’t you just love it. It gets the creative juices flowing, don’t it? I would like to hear from you to see the creative uses you have for these new tools. Happy searching!!! it just
